Book Marketing in the Digital Age

If you're a writer, perhaps you dream of writing a major bestseller, one that competes with Rowling's and Updike's best work. Unlike Rowling and Updike, most of us will not sign on with a publisher willing to break the budget marketing our novels. We'll have to do it ourselves on our nickle.

Yvonne Perry, author of Book Marketing in the Digital Age suggests that new authors begin with a good website. Then, along with a wealth of other tips, she suggests just how to set up that website for the search engines and--you hope--prospective readers. The word "digital" leaps out at me.

While big name authors will see reviews of their books in the major print media outlets, will go on physical book tours to major cities, and will have major marketing and promotions support from their publishers, most of today's authors will do most of their debut book's promotion on line. In addition to that website, they'll go on blogging tours, make podcasts, and leave comments on the blogs of other authors, readers, and book enthusiasts. In time, more and more books will be issued as PDF files or through such systems as Amazon's Kindle.

Yvonne Perry's book will point you in the right direction and get you started.

I'm stunned by Author/Reviewer Geri Ahearn's review of my novel The Sun Singer posted on her site, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble yesterday. Here's my favorite part of it:

Malcolm R. Campbell takes the reader on a magnificent, magic carpet ride to the past, the present, and the future. The story is enlightening, and tugs at the reader's heart as the adventure becomes a journey that strikes a chord in every reader, while looking back into the years of growing up. This novel is packed with riveting intensity, and is hauntingly powerful. As each page in "The Sun Singer" fits another piece to the mysterious puzzle that Robert is determined to put together, the story becomes more entertaining, and touching. The author created a brilliant, must-read fantasy that makes you crave for a sequel. --Geraldine Ahearn

Thanks for the heads up on Perry's new book. This looks like just what I need, some guidance on how to wade through the tons of information and methods for marketing online.

I hope you enjoy the e-book!

Malcolm
