Writing What We Know
When some people talk, the assure us they know everything, while new writers--I think--often stare for hours at an empty screen, held fast by the belief that they don't know anything.
Like it or not, we tend to put a lot more of ourselves into our writing than we intend to. Without falling into the horror of vanity, recognizing that we have much to say from our own experience is a good step to getting around writer's block.
Today's Website: NewPages A favorite of mine for years. As the site says, "Good Reading Starts Here! News, information and guides to independent bookstores, independent publishers, literary magazines, alternative periodicals, independent record labels, alternative newsweeklies and more."
Today's Quotation: "You must always work not just within but below your means. If you can handle three elements, handle only two. If you can handle ten, then handle five. In that way the ones you do handle, you handle with more ease, more mastery and you create a feeling of strength in reserve." -- Picasso
